I like the idea of the #k7 in general. That way, we don't have to specify different zones for events and so forth. If people in K7M want to meet up with people from K7L for drinks or something, using K7 seems fitting.

That, and it's not a popularly used tag already, so adopting it won't be confusing.

Hi Tommy,

Although I don't live in Kingston anymore, what a great idea! I think local relevance would be really great, and I could see setting up a search column in Tweetdeck to stay updated (maybe where the latest kegger is happening for the Queen's students!).

One question though, while I was at Queen's (about a year ago), there didn't seem to be much action on Twitter. Has that changed?

As I mentioned in the post, I actually thought about that sort of tag first. The problem I saw with it was that it was too big from a geographical sense and I thought breaking it down to a smaller, more precise area would be smarter... I've been wrong before, though.

I think this is an amazing idea. I've sen it used here and there in other cities, and I think the main challenge will be promoting usage. The largest hurdle I hear of new Twitter users is that they often find themselves at a loss with the whole hash tag concept. That in and of itself could be better explained on Twitter. Anywho, I'm game to give it a shot.

Why not unify them under the #k7 hash tag? All of the postal codes for kingston begin with that, and I don't know that the city needs six or more hash tags, do you?
