I eventually just gave up and dealt with it. I tend to play something in VLC first, then if I get interrupted and have to come back to it, it gets WMP. As for iTunes, I haven't yet been happy with anything else for the iPods or the BB playlists. Having the store helps too. It's probably gonna be one of the last to go (But IS on it's way out as I've been playing with last.fm recently). I assume you've tried to re-install? Vista conflict? iTunes is the only other one I'm surprised with. I've managed to stay away from it, thanks to Amarok etc..
